The amount of sleep a child needs varies depending on certain factors, including the age of the child.  Below are general guidelines the amount of sleep a child needs:

1 - 4 weeks old 15 - 16 hours per day
1 - 4 months old 14 - 15 hours per day
4 - 12 months old 14 - 15 hours per day
1 - 3 years old 12 - 14 hours per day
7 - 12 years old 10 - 11 hoursper day
12 - 18 years old 8 -9 hours per day

 

How can I improve my child's sleep?

There are so many ways that we can improve our child’s sleep one of these are:

  • Have a consistent routine 
  • Have a consistent bedtime
  • Dim the lights
  • Stop using electronics/screens at least an hour before bed
  • Limit caffeine
  • Take a warm bath
  • Read a bedtime story
  • Sing a bedtime song
  • Get out the giggles with some tickles
